Orig. half vellum with gilt spine titles and gilt-stamped printer’s device on front boards. – (Supplement:) Orig. boards. – Darmstadt, Ernst Ludwig Presse, 1925–31. One of 250 (vol. VII: 200; supplement 135, numbered) copies on Zanders hand-made paper. Planned by Christian Heinrich Kleukens, set in Shakespeare types and printed in memoriam T. J. Cobden-Sanderson, “dem hervorragenden Drucker des deutschen Faust”, who published all the famous Goethe editions at the Doves Press. Text revised by F. Brie. The edition was planned in 16 vols. but was stopped with vol. VII because of economical misfortune. 100 copies were reserved for the friends of the Ernst Ludwig Presse, the other part of the edition was distributed by Insel. The supplement which was printed for the subscribers in 1925 contains “Volks-Scene in dem Drama Sir Thomas More”, attributed to Shakespeare. – Rodenberg 499 (vols.
