First edition of Le Dran’s (1685–1770) „Traité“ containing chapters on inflammation, abscess, gangrene, sutures, hernia, dropsy, calculus, cancer, resection and amputation, aneurisms, fistulas, whitlow, etc. One of the foremost French surgeons and on of Haller’s teachers, Le Dran was noted for his judicious observations and valuable case reports in military and general surgery. He was chief surgeon of the French Army in the 1730ies, was innovative in his approach to cancer and a skilled lithotomist who made improvements to the operation. From the library of the Kinsky family with their armorial supralibros and with ms. inscription „Excell. Com De Kynsky“ on flyleaf. – Blake 262; Wellcome 473; Waller 5672.
