Third edition of Angelo Carletti’s (1411-1495) „Summa“, called „angelica“ according to his first name. The first edition was printed in the year before in Angelo’s native town Chivasso in Piedmont. Angelo, originating from a noble family, entered the Order of Friars Minor at the age of 30. His „Summa de casibus conscientiae“ is a dicitonary of moral theology containing 659 terms who are arranged in alphabetical order. Up to the year 1520, the „Summa“ was published in more than thirty editions. Considered as a statement of Catholic orthodoxy, Angelo’s „Summa“ was banned by Martin Luther as „mehr als teuflisch“ and burned on a public place in Wittenberg in 1520. – Hain/C. 5583; GW 1925; Goff A-715; BMC V, 335. – Old library stamp on first leaf in front.
