Salman Rushdie’s (*1947) fourth and most famous novel „The Satanic Verses“ caused a huge scandal and was banned in several countries. Accused of blasphemy, Ayatollah Khomeini issued a fatwa ruling against Rushdie with a death sentence. He was the victim of several assassination attempts and translators of the book were attacked as well.
